Whereas, Raymond Heinzen was born in Marshfield on May 11, 1918, and died
3in Arpin on September 12, 2005; and

Whereas, Raymond Heinzen graduated from McKinley High and attended the
5University of Wisconsin College of Agriculture; and

Whereas, upon leaving school to take over the family dairy farm, Raymond
7Heinzen embarked on a career not only of farming but of civic involvement, serving
8as clerk of the local school district, a member of the state Board of Vocational,
9Technical and Adult Education, president of the Marshfield Dairymen's Association,
10and secretary of the Hub Dairy Cooperative; and

Whereas, his sense of civic involvement led Raymond Heinzen to seek election
12to the Wisconsin assembly, where he served from the 1961 session through the 1967
13session; and

Whereas, he subsequently was elected to the Wisconsin senate, serving in the
151969 and 1971 sessions; and

1Whereas, his interest in education was reflected in his service as chairman of
2the senate education committee; and

Whereas, his authorship of the university merger legislation in 1971 allows us
4to view the University of Wisconsin System itself as an ongoing monument to his
5public life; now, therefore, be it

6Resolved by the senate, the assembly concurring, That the Wisconsin
7legislature salutes the life and public service of Raymond Heinzen and mourns his
8passing; and, be it further

9Resolved, That the senate chief clerk shall provide copies of this joint
10resolution to his daughter, Ann Marie Fisher and his son, Paul Ben Heinzen.
