AB948,1,2 1An Act relating to: analysis and assessment of Wisconsin's outdoor recreation
2economy.
Analysis by the Legislative Reference Bureau
This bill requires the Department of Tourism to conduct an analysis and
assessment of Wisconsin's outdoor recreation economy and the effects on the
economy of each county and the overall economy of the state that are attributable to
the outdoor recreation economy. In conducting the assessment and analysis,
Tourism is required to consult with the Department of Natural Resources, with other
state agencies or authorities Tourism considers appropriate, and with
representatives of businesses, including small businesses, that engage in commerce
in the outdoor recreation economy of this state. The bill requires Tourism to submit
a report on its findings to the legislature within one year after the bill becomes law.

The people of the state of Wisconsin, represented in senate and assembly, do
enact as follows:

AB948,1,44 (1) Analysis and assessment of Wisconsin's outdoor recreation economy.

1(a) Definition. In this subsection, “department” means the department of
2tourism.
AB948,2,83 (b) Analysis and assessment. The department shall conduct an analysis and
4assessment of the outdoor recreation economy of this state and the effects on the
5overall economy of this state, as well as the effects on each county, that are
6attributable to the outdoor recreation economy. The analysis and assessment shall
7distinguish between the economic activity of visitors to the state and that of residents
8and shall distinguish between public and private lands.
AB948,2,129 (c) Considerations. In conducting the analysis and assessment required under
10paragraph (b), the department may consider employment, sales, and contributions
11to travel and tourism, and other contributing components of the outdoor recreation
12economy as the department considers appropriate.
AB948,2,1713 (d) Consultation. In carrying out the analysis and assessment required under
14paragraph (b), the department shall consult with the department of natural
15resources, with other state agencies or authorities the department considers
16appropriate, and with representatives of businesses, including small businesses,
17that engage in commerce in the outdoor recreation economy of this state.
AB948,2,2218 (e) Report. No later than one year after the effective date of this paragraph, the
19department shall submit to the chief clerk of each house of the legislature for
20distribution to the legislature under section 13.172 (2) of the statutes a report on the
21findings of the department with respect to the analysis and assessment conducted
22under paragraph (b).
