2(BIA) with the United States and reaffirming support for increasing Taiwan's
3international profile and for strengthening and expanding sister-state ties
4between Wisconsin and Taiwan.
AJR106,1,75 Whereas, the state of Wisconsin is proud of the sister-state relationship it has
6enjoyed with the Republic of China (Taiwan) since 1986, which is marked by strong
7bilateral trade, educational and cultural exchange, and tourism; and
AJR106,1,108 Whereas, Taiwan shares the same values of freedom, democracy, human rights,
9the rule of law, peace, and prosperity with the United States and the state of
10Wisconsin; and
AJR106,1,1311 Whereas, the United States ranks as Taiwan's second-largest trading partner,
12Taiwan ranks as the ninth-largest trading partner of the United States, and
13bilateral trade reached $66.6 billion in 2015; and
AJR106,2,214 Whereas, Taiwan and the state of Wisconsin have enjoyed a long and mutually
15beneficial relationship with the prospect of future growth, and Taiwan was

1Wisconsin's seventh-largest export market in 2015, with $184 million worth of
2Wisconsin goods exported to Taiwan; and
AJR106,2,73 Whereas, negotiations for a Bilateral Investment Agreement (BIA) between
4Taiwan and the United States are an important step toward further strengthening
5bilateral trade between our countries, thereby increasing Wisconsin's exports to
6Taiwan and creating bilateral investment, technical collaboration, and trade
7facilitation measures; and
AJR106,2,118 Whereas, Taiwan has undertaken a policy of “steadfast diplomacy” in its
9international relations and is capable of and willing to fulfill its responsibilities and
10collaborate with the world to deal with the challenges of humanitarian aids, disease
11control, and so forth; now, therefore, be it
AJR106,2,15 12Resolved by the assembly, the senate concurring, That the Wisconsin
13legislature reaffirms its commitment to the strengthening and deepening of the
14sister-state relationship between Taiwan and the state of Wisconsin; and, be it
15further
AJR106,2,17 16Resolved, That Wisconsin endorses Taiwan's efforts to secure the signing of
17the BIA with the United States; and, be it further
AJR106,2,21 18Resolved, That Wisconsin continues to support Taiwan's appropriate
19participation in international organizations that impact the health, safety, and
20well-being of the people of Taiwan and supports Taiwan's aspiration to make more
21contributions in international societies; and, be it further
AJR106,2,24 22Resolved, That the chief clerk of the assembly is hereby directed to transmit
23copies of this resolution to the members of the Wisconsin Congressional delegation
24and the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Chicago, Illinois.
