SJR33,1,32 Whereas, former state legislator Donald K. Stitt was born on November 26,
31944, and died on September 16, 2014; and
SJR33,1,74 Whereas, Donald Stitt was born in Milwaukee, the son of Norman and Nancy,
5graduated from Whitefish Bay High School, earned his bachelor's degree in political
6science at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and received law degrees from
7Marquette University and Georgetown Law School; and
SJR33,1,128 Whereas, Donald Stitt served as a state legislator from 1979 to 1993, first as
9a representative for the 60th Assembly District until 1984, and then as Senator for
10the 20th Senate District, representing Port Washington and most of Ozaukee
11County, along with parts of Washington, Dodge, Fond du Lac, and Sheboygan
12Counties; and
SJR33,1,1513 Whereas, Donald Stitt served on the Joint Committee on Finance as a member
14of both the Assembly and the Senate, becoming vice chairman of the committee in
151993; and

1Whereas, Donald Stitt took a lead in reforming state securities laws during his
2tenure and earned a reputation for promoting economic development in Wisconsin;

SJR33,2,64 Whereas, Donald Stitt described himself as an "individualist" and subscribed
5to the concept of the citizen legislator who served his state and then returned to
6private work; and
SJR33,2,87 Whereas, Donald Stitt served as the State Chairman of the Republican Party
8from 1988 to 1989; and
SJR33,2,109 Whereas, Donald Stitt grew up along Lake Michigan and had a passion for
10sailing, was an avid hunter, and traveled extensively; and
SJR33,2,1311 Whereas, Donald was husband to Mary, father to Jonathan, Sarah, Lindsay,
12and Heidi, and grandfather to Patrick, Ryan, Adelaide, Lauren, Pierce, Michael, and
13William; now, therefore, be it
SJR33,2,16 14Resolved by the senate, the assembly concurring, That the members of the
15Wisconsin legislature salute Donald K. Stitt's public service and mourn his passing;
16and, be it further
SJR33,2,18 17Resolved, That the senate chief clerk shall provide a copy of this joint
18resolution to his wife Mary and his children Jonathan, Sarah, Lindsay, and Heidi.
