Senator Taylor, with unanimous consent, asked that when the Senate adjourn, it do so in honor of Black Church Week of Prayer for the Healing of AIDS. Last week, Milwaukee's Black Health Coalition and Faith Community participated in the “Black Church Week of Prayer for the Healing of AIDS". It was a powerful week of prayer, education and action. This effort was a part of a national AIDS awareness campaign, that engages Black congregations to support, encourage and empower all people. In particular, African-Americans are being asked to take action in the fight to stop the spread of HIV/AIDS in Black communities worldwide. African American women who are disproportionately affected, have witnessed HIV/AIDS become the leading cause of death of those 25 to 34. The rate of cases for African-American women is 25 times higher than the rate for White women. I applaud the efforts of these organizations to bring not only attention to this serious public health issue, but also education and dialogue. Thank God we realize that to not discuss HIV/AIDS is as deadly to our community, as the disease itself.
