Announcements, Adjournment
Honors, and Remarks Under Special Privilege
Senator Wirch, with unanimous consent, asked that when the Senate adjourn, it do so in honor of Pleasant Prairie native Christina Anna Thompson who won the Miss Wisconsin title and will advance to the 2008 Miss America pageant next January.
Senator Jauch, with unanimous consent, asked that when the Senate adjourn, it do so in honor of Ayah Hasarma, Wafa AbuYaqoub, Sajidah Mohammad and Sara Khasib, high school students from Ramallah in the central West Bank of Palestine, who were also joined by Fouad Alriahi, Ahmed Hamza, Ibrahim Hamza, Mohammed Zebda and their chaperone Huthayfa Jalamneh. These students made a presentation at the Center for Civic Education International Project Citizen Showcase in Washington D.C. which identified unsafe and unsanitary conditions in a hospital in their community that serves poor people. Through their presentation, they passionately identified alternative solutions and mobilized their community to engage with a government that did not want to be responsible for making substantial improvements to the hospital. As women they stood taller than the tallest basketball player to champion the rights of women and strive for economic justice. Their efforts were incredibly courageous and their presentation inspirational.
