100.75 of the statutes; relating to: requiring retail sellers to
2accept cash and providing a penalty.

This bill requires a retailer who sells goods or services from a physical location
to accept cash as payment during a face-to-face sale with a consumer, unless the
person is otherwise prohibited by law from accepting cash. A retailer who violates
this requirement is subject to a civil forfeiture of $200 to $5,000.

The people of the state of Wisconsin, represented in senate and assembly, do
enact as follows:
100.75 of the statutes is created to read:
4100.75 Retail sellers required to accept cash.
A person who sells goods or 5
services at retail from a physical location may not refuse to accept cash in exchange 6
for those goods or services during a face-to-face sale with a consumer, unless the 7
person is otherwise prohibited by law from accepting cash for the goods or services
being sold. The department, or any district attorney upon notifying the department, 2
may commence an action in the name of the state to recover a forfeiture to the state 3
of not less than $200 and not more than $5,000 for each violation of this section. In 4
lieu of or in addition to a forfeiture, the department, or any district attorney upon 5
notifying the department, may seek a temporary or permanent injunction 6
restraining any person from violating this section.
