1An Act to amend 120.13 (37) of the statutes;
relating to: granting high school
2diplomas to veterans.
Analysis by the Legislative Reference Bureau
Current law permits a school district to award a high school diploma to a person
who is at least 65 years old, attended high school in the school district, and left high
school before graduation to serve under honorable conditions during a war. This bill
would permit the school district where such a veteran resides to award a high school
diploma to the veteran if he or she attended high school in any Wisconsin school
district.
The people of the state of Wisconsin, represented in senate and assembly, do
enact as follows:

1. 120.13 (37) of the statutes is amended to read:

(37) Awarding high school diplomas to veterans. Notwithstanding s.
5118.33 (1), award a high school diploma to a person who
resides in the school district
6and is at least 65 years old, attended high school in
the a school district
in this state,
7left high school before receiving a high school diploma to join the U.S. armed forces
1during a war period under s. 45.35 (5) (e) and served on active duty under honorable
2conditions in the U.S. armed forces or in forces incorporated as part of the U.S. armed
3forces. A school board may award a high school diploma to a person who received a
4high school equivalency diploma under s. 115.29 (4) after serving on active duty if the
5person meets the other conditions of this paragraph.
