relating to: requiring public hearings on proposals.
Analysis by the Legislative Reference Bureau
Currently under the assembly rules, a committee chairperson decides whether
and when to schedule a public hearing on a proposal. This resolution requires that
all proposals be given a public hearing within 60 days after they are referred or
rereferred to the committee. However, proposals considered in special or
extraordinary session do not require a hearing.
The resolution also provides that the hearing may not be held until 7 working
days after copies of any of the legislation scheduled for hearing are available to the
public.
