This bill requires the Department of Corrections to prepare, within one year,
a report for the legislature on the alternatives to the solitary confinement of inmates
with the goal of eliminating the practice.
The people of the state of Wisconsin, represented in senate and assembly, do
enact as follows:
SB441,1 3Section 1. Nonstatutory provisions.
SB441,2,24 (1) Report on alternatives to solitary confinement. The department of
5corrections shall study alternatives to the solitary confinement of inmates with the
6goal of eliminating solitary confinement. Within one year after the effective date of
7this subsection, the department of corrections shall submit a report from the study

1to the chief clerk of each house of the legislature for distribution to the legislature
2under section 13.172 (2) of the statutes.
